Sustaining Our Work for the Next Generation

St. Mary’s Dining Room has a long history of providing hope to those living in poverty and homelessness, thanks to the generous support of our donors, who believe in providing basic needs, opportunity and hope for neighbors in need.

Because poverty will always exist, our services will be needed for decades to come. Your gift can help ensure that the next generations of people living on the margins will have hot meals, temporary shelter and services that will lead to more independent lives and brighter futures.

What is Planned Giving?

What is Planned Giving?

Often referred to as Legacy Giving, Planned Giving is the practice of designating a major gift to a charitable organization in life or as part of an Estate Plan. The gift could include cash, real estate, life insurance, equity, or personal property, to name a few. Gifts are typically distributed after the donor passes away. There are many options that can be individualized to fit into your plan to ensure your loved ones are cared for while leaving a meaningful legacy in your community. There are associated investment or tax strategies that can maximize the gift’s impact, so consulting a financial professional is recommended. We have expert partners who can assist.

Avoid capital gains taxes when transferring appreciated security assets as part of a Planned Gift

While you may not be able to give at significant levels during your lifetime, a Planned Gift gives you the opportunity to leave a more sizable, meaningful contribution after your lifetime

Most Planned Gifts are designated to a specific program, so you can make a significant impact in an area about which you are most passionate

When is the best time to consider making a planned gift?

When is the best time to consider making a planned gift?

You can add St. Mary’s Dining Room to your Living Will at any time. Some donors over the age of 71 1/2, who are receiving mandatory income distributions from IRAs, designate the distributions directly to St. Mary’s Dining Room. There are no tax liabilities for them if the funds go directly to St. Mary’s.

You will know when it’s the right time. Be sure to inform your family of your wishes, and let our staff know, so we may help direct the funds where you feel the most deeply connected.
