Welcome Volunteers!

    Applications are to be submitted an Adult or Adult Chaperone only.

    Volunteerism (All shifts must be scheduled – No walk-ins)


    Volunteer Department Description

    Kitchen: Assist with filling meal containers on the line during service, and clean-up.

    Volunteer Meal Service Times: Breakfast 8 am – 10 am, Lunch 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, Dinner 4 pm – 6 pm.

    Dining Room: Assist with serving meals and clean-up.

    Laundry Room: Assist with sorting, folding/hanging clothing.

    Women and Children’s Shower and Clothing Center: Assist with organizing and distributing goods and clothing. After hours restocking shift: 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

    Men’s Shower and Clothing Center: Assist with organizing and distributing goods and clothing. 7:30 am – 12:00 pm.

    Facilities Maintenance: Keep our campus clean and beautiful (Mostly outdoors).

    Community Relations (Remote Option): Contact local businesses to locate potential volunteers and donors.

    Gardener: Help us create a beautiful and welcoming campus.

    Seamstress: Mend and tailor clothing for our guests.

    Interior Designer/Holiday Spirit: Offer insight and decorate our departments.

    Veterinarian: Provide vaccines and care to our guests’ pets.

    Barber/Hair Dresser/Colorist: Provide hair cuts and/or styles for our guests.

    Videographer/Photography: Capture images and or videos for our campus and services.

    Resume/Cover Letter Educator: Assist our guests in formulating resumes and cover letters.

    Interview Coach: Help prepare our guests to be successful interviewing.

    Volunteer Guidelines

    *DRESS CODE & PERSONAL BELONGINGS*

    • Long pants (No legs, ankle or feet showing).
    • T-Shirt or Long Sleeve Shirt.
    • Non Slip or Tennis Shoes (no sandals or high heels).
    • Aprons, hairnets and gloves will be provided.
    • A baseball cap can be worn in place of our hairnets.

    ATTENTION – Please do not bring any personal belongings (Purses, Backpacks, etc) We do not have a secure storage area and cannot be responsible for lost/stolen items.

    GUIDELINES

    Out of respect and privacy for our guests, we do not permit any forms of video, photography, evangelization and/or interviews with our guests on our campus.

    PROCEDURES Follow all staff instructions, safety and hygiene procedures, and assigned tasks. Inform staff immediately if you are not comfortable with any task(s).

    YOUTH & CHAPERONE POLICY Volunteers under 18 years of age (youth) must have an adult chaperone. 1 adult may chaperone up to 5 youth.

    CHAPERONES MUST be actively supervising and volunteering alongside the minor(s) throughout the entire volunteer experience.

    DONATIONS Removing any donations including: food, clothing, property, etc. from St. Mary’s without the permission from only SMDR Directors and/or our CEO, will result in termination.

    Volunteers do not receive any form of compensation for their service.

    INFORM a staff member if any problems should arise. Volunteers have the right to work in an environment free from harassment. This includes unwelcome verbal and/or physical conduct that degrades or shows hostility toward a staff member, another volunteer, or a guest.

    VOLUNTEER RELEASE & WAVIER OF LIABILITY

    This Release and Waiver of Liability (“Release”) by the volunteer(s) and the St. Mary’s Community Services a nonprofit organization, located at 545 W. Sonora Street, Stockton, CA 95203. Volunteer understands that the scope of Volunteer’s relationship with Nonprofit Agency is limited to a volunteer position and that no compensations is expected in return for services provided by Volunteer; that Nonprofit will not provide any benefits traditionally associated with employment for Volunteer, and that Volunteer is responsible for his/her own insurance coverage in the event of personal injury or illness as a result of Volunteer’s services to Nonprofit Agency.

    • 1. Waiver and Release
      • a. Volunteer releases and holds harmless Nonprofit Agency and each of its board members, officers, agents from any and all liability, claims and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which arise, or may hereafter arise from the services Volunteer provides to Nonprofit Agency.
      • b. Volunteer acknowledges that this Release discharges Nonprofit Agency and its board members, officers, agents from any liability or claim with respect to bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death, or property damage that may result from the services Volunteer provides.
      • c. Volunteer releases and forever discharges Nonprofit Agency and its board members, officers, agents from any claim whatsoever which may arise or may hereafter arise on account of first-aid treatment or other medical services rendered in connection with an emergency during the time Volunteer is providing services to Nonprofit Agency.
    • 2. Insurance
      • a. Volunteer understands and acknowledges that Nonprofit Agency does not assume responsibility providing Volunteer with financial or other assistance, including, but not limited to, medical, health or disability, or general liability insurance of any nature in the event Volunteer incurs injury, illness or personal property damage.
    • 3. Assumption of Risk
      • a. Volunteer understands that the services provided by Volunteer to Nonprofit Agency may include activities that may be hazardous and inherently dangerous (including but not limited to, use of construction materials, electrical conduits, lifting of heavy materials, etc.).
      • b. Volunteer expressly assumes the risk of injury or harm from these activities and releases Nonprofit Agency and its board members, officers and agents from all liability from harm incurred.
    • 4. Photographic Release
      • a. Volunteer grants and conveys to Nonprofit Agency all rights, title and interests in any and all photographs, images, video, or audio recordings of Volunteer made by Nonprofit Agency in connections with Volunteer services to Nonprofit Agency.
    • 5. Governing Law
      • a. Volunteer expressly agrees that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the laws of the State of California and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with California State laws.
    • 6. Severability
      • a. Volunteer and Nonprofit Agency agree that should any clause or provision of this Release be deemed invalid, the enforceability of the remaining provisions of the Release shall not be affected.

    By signing below, Volunteer expresses his/her understanding and intent to enter into this Release and Waiver of Liability willingly and voluntarily and promises to partner with Nonprofit Agency throughout the duration of the volunteering partnership in perpetuity.

    I have read and understand the volunteer guidelines and Volunteer Release and Wavier of Liability. If I do not comply, I understand I will be discharged from the program.
