Homelessness

While the homelessness crisis seems to be growing, there is positive momentum among the State, City and County, as well as numerous local Community-Based Organizations. There is a swell of energy and activity in our region around finding solutions. Resources have been dedicated to analyzing data, interviewing those experiencing homelessness, understanding root causes and engaging in unprecedented collaborative efforts.

Housing for the homeless is critical. With support from the Health Plan of San Joaquin, the City of Stockton, San Joaquin County, and Dignity Health, St. Mary’s has launched a new project to construct hundreds of units on our parking lot that will accommodate our most vulnerable guests, including seniors, women, and individuals with severe mental illness or a physical disability. These individual units will also overcome the main barriers for people to access shelter: pets, property, partners and privacy. It will be an interim stay for people to get stable while we help them transition to permanent housing that meets their needs.

Stockton’s Response to Homelessness

The City of Stockton continues to make targeted investments, supported by local, state, and federal funding, that align with the three goals of the Strategic Plan.
